Current Students
Rachel Scarlett
Rachel recently defended her MS in the Environmental Sciences and Engineering program and is moving on to pursue her PhD. Her research focuses on intergrading biophysical and social controls on water quality in urban watersheds in Charlotte, NC. She is also part of a SESYNC looking at similar issues in NYC. |
Dani Winter
Dani is interested in how ecological engineers can better restore floodplains to maximize water quality benefits. She's linking hydrologic connectivity drivers of nitrogen transformations across a range of restoration types. |
Anne Hays
Anne is a senior at Purdue University in Environmental and Ecological Engineering. She's interested in the effects of stormwater runoff on the ecosystem health, water pollution, and ecosystem restoration. Her research focuses on the multiple ecosystem services provided by rain gardens in urban landscapes. |
Megan Casey
Megan is a senior in ABE. She is interested in using spatial tools to determine how the distribution of urban green space relates to the socioeconomic characteristics of neighborhoods. She wants to understand how green space can be best distributed to maximize both ecosystem services and societal benefits. |
Theresa Ingermann
Theresa is linking social science theory with survey responses to understand the role of knowledge and community norms on participation in urban stormwater management. |
Susan Chen
Susan's research focuses on the effects of floodplain restoration on nitrogen cycling, particularly how freeze/thaw affects microbial communities during long periods of inundation. |
Maiqi Zhang
Maiqi is teasing apart the trends, patterns, and drivers of water chemistry in the St. Mary's River Basin which drains to Lake Erie. |
Matthew Baker
Matthew's research focuses on the effects of floodplain restoration, inundation period, and connectivity on the nutrient flux in restored riverine floodplains. |
Co-Advised Students
Molly Welsh
Molly Welsh received her B.S. in Environmental Science and Management with a minor in Marine and Environmental Policy from the University of Rhode Island. Through undergraduate fellowship programs, Molly conducted research on nitrogen removal in headwater streams with the Watershed Hydrology Laboratory. Molly earned her M.S. in Earth Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where her research focused on quantifying seasonal denitrification enzyme activity and identifying drivers of denitrification along the stream-riparian continuum in restored and unrestored agricultural streams. Her current research interests include exploring seasonal controls on nutrient chemistry and surface water-groundwater interactions. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Environmental Science with a concentration in Water and Wetland Resources at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. |
